"Asking why for the rest of your life will only lead to pain and despair. Ask God how he can use the circumstances of your life for good and you will find joy and victory."

Raising a child with special needs is one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences a parent will ever have. There are many steps parents can take to help socialize and prepare their children for the lifelong education that awaits them. But, it isn't always easy. The Rise School of Stillwater is being opened for the sole purpose of helping local parents with this difficult task.

Help is on the 'Rise' in Stillwater, Oklahoma

When the new Rise School of Stillwater opens its doors in August of 2007, it will join the other renowned Rise schools in offering:
  • Socialization for disabled and non-disabled children – By providing an educational setting comprised of 60-70% of students with disabilities and 30-40% of children who are typically developing, the students can learn from one another and become socialized in an environment that embraces differences and encourages growth at all levels.
  • Specialized curriculum taught by a highly experienced staff – Each classroom will be staffed with a teacher who has a master's degree in special education and prior experience teaching students with disabilities. These teachers, who will each have two full-time teaching assistants, will provide an intensive academic and therapeutic focus for the children using a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • A low student-to-teacher ratio – To ensure all students receive the direct and individual attention needed to prepare them for their next learning environment, the school will maintain a three-to-one student-to-teacher ratio.
  • Parent education and support - By forming a partnership with each student's family, the Rise School staff will encourage each family to attain developmentally appropriate expectations for their child in day-to-day activities, as well as prepare them for the lifelong challenges and obstacles that await them.
